events and weather in LA

oh! hi there Los Angeles!

My name is Minh Do! Since Brett has flown away to cold New York and left behind stormy LA, I'm jumping in to write the IRL LA newsletter and steward the events every week. I've been in web3/crypto since 2014, living many lives from journalist to VC to entrepreneur, and just started a new venture studio this year called Fantastic Day. If you've got an event(s) you want us to feature, feel free to email me at minh(at)launchhouse(dot)co. And out of curiosity, what are events that you wish were happening that aren't?

Ironically, although I'm covering LA this week, I'm stuck in the southern hemisphere for the month, so I'll be missing out on all the awesome events and storms you guys are having.

Most importantly, I'll be missing out on Outer Edge LA, which starts at the end of this week. There's plenty of side events you can check out too, so stay close as many are popping up next week and the week after. Have fun everyone!

WHAT'S POPPIN IN LA

monday (3/13)

tuesday (3/14)

  • The Funny or Die Lab - Everybody should check out Dynasty Typewriter at some point. It's a cute venue with solid musical and comedy acts. Funny or Die brings the audience and comedians together for a fun interactive night.

  • Pasadena Tech Happy Hour - Or you could take a hike all the way out to Caltech's stomping grounds to meet other entrepreneurs in East LA.

wednesday (3/15)

thursday (3/16)

  • AI in Management Conference - The universities are jumping on the bandwagon of AI...or are we jumping on the AI bandwagon that the universities have already been on? Nevertheless, USC is doing a conference to tackle AI in business.

friday (3/17)

  • LA Tech Meetup - Meetup with other techies in LA at a Starbucks? That's exactly what this is.

saturday (3/18)

  • LMU Innovation Symposium - Loyola Maramont, like USC, is looking into AI, but in their case, how it examines AI in education.

sunday (3/19)

  • Whayle Mentality - Didn't Brendan Fraser just get the Oscar for Whale? I feel like it's timely to mint an unrelated Whayle NFT in celebration. In all seriousness, if you go there's music, drinks, and a raffle where you win free nights in San Diego.

  • Immersive Leonardo - If you're up for something weird and off the beaten path, this is it.

  • Outer Edge LA - Okay, Outer Edge technically starts on the 20th, but it's good to get ahead of it by either resting or going to the many networking/cocktail events that are lining up for the week. Remember to dress warm!

WEATHER

Just when we thought the storm would be over, it came back and hit us. Expect the storm hitting us in the beginning of the week and subside a tad by the end of the week, but with climate change and El Nino potentially coming back, who knows?

WHAT'S COMIN UP

  • Outer Edge LA - We've been saying for weeks and now it's here: Outer Edge LA (the com formerly known as NFT LA)! The event centers around Web3, NFT's, entertainment and more. It's a chance for the entertainment folks to pontificate about where web3 is going and a chance for the web3 folks to wonder about how their tech is relevant. But seriously, it's the cutting edge of where content meets the blockchain and it's worth it to see where this merging of industries is headed next.

  • Nerd Nite LA - This might be one of my favorite events in LA. Organized and run by nerds, Nerd Nite LA brings together nerds from across the city to present to each other about random nerdy topics.

  • WorldWideWeb3 w/ Annika Rose - Annika Rose takes us through a mixer and music next Tuesday!

  • Caper Club - Great White Event - A new foodie platform with an intimate food experience? Sign me up!

  • DAO LA presents: The future of DAOs in a changing regulatory climate - If you're into DAO's, check out this event next Thursday!

Have an amazing week everyone!
